Question:Is this kind of motor (with planetary gearbox) necessary for the construction of a syringe pump, or can i use just a nema 17 stepper motor?
Answer:The choice of motor depends on your working requirements. If it is high speed and low torque, the gearbox is not needed. If it is low speed and high torque, the gearbox motor is necessary. .
Question:I connected the motor to a driver (with working code) but all I hear is a loud streaking noise, the driver is set to exert the lowest possible voltage

Question:Can the gearbox be removed from the motor?
Answer:There are 8 screws holding it on/together. I would be afraid I couldn't get it back together.
So far it's a good little motor, however the low 1.1ohm coil resistance is causing me some issues with one of the L298N H-bridge modules I also bought off amazon. In order to drive this motor you either need a current limited power supply <2A or you need to drive it at about 2V. If you supply it with 12V as stated in the spec sheet, it will draw about 11A, which is plenty to smoke-check both the motor and your H-Bridge. If you're going to use this with the L298N, you must use PWM, or wire [email protected] resistors. If you don't know what any of this means, don't use it with the L298N modules you will end up smoke checking the motor or the bridge.
Nothing I can complain about. I just wished I purchased something more powerful for my application.
I beat up this motor, held it still while trying step, and turning it while it was trying to hold, but no complaints per the motor. I got it stupid hot in an attempt to really work it, and it still responds quite well. So I only have good recommendations for this motor.
(I'm going to order the 84oz motors for my application, and use the same seller :D )
I ordered two of these to replace my Z motors on a RepRapGuru I3 machine. Only one motor was bad, but figured it would be best to replace as a matched pair and pull the good one aside for a standby replacement for any other failures.
They were a bolt-up, drop in replacement for the stock motors. Though, this item has a higher amperage rating and slightly higher torque, so I can under-drive them a little an lose nothing in the trade.
I bought this motor is replace the weak extruder motor on my Wanhao Duplicator i3 v2 that I recently changed to a RAMPS 1.4 board. I've been using it all weekend, and so far everything is working out pretty good. I haven't gotten around to reinstalling my Flexion extruder kit back on after changing back to the stock block with the all-metal upgrades, but this thing can definitely power that. Not that noisy (although nothing is that noisy when sitting next to the fans that came on the Wanhao), and haven't had any clogs or skipped steps yet.
I know the stock motor is 34mm, but a 6mm difference is negligible for me, and the tradeoff in torque gain was worth it.
One note though, I had to remove some metal from the heatsink to make it fit, since the shaft is a bit longer than stock as well. Also, be sure to adjust your voltage, because the stock motors run at a pretty significantly lower voltage than these.
Great stepper for the RoBo 3D
I built a clone and these motors work great with the RAMPS and default drivers.
The wires are plenty long enough, and although I would have loved a connector at the motor itself, I can always add one myself.
No issues with drift or double-stepping. Plenty strong enough for all 5 motors of my machine.
